How to connect govee lights together without connector

I'm not sure if my length of connector wire is too long for the signal to travel, or if I need to solder the connections better, but I do get some flickering on the second strip that isn't directly connected to the power supply. There's less flickering if I dim the lights. I'm using 18 gauge speaker wire.
